At this exact moment in time, I am eating the most delicious thing I could conceive of. Yes, it's homemade, and yes, I am touting my culinary skills!

On the menu for today's lunch:

Goat cheese omelet made with organic eggs, homegrown hot green pepper, fennel seeds and rosemary, served with an arugula salad (courtesy of our CSA program) with apple cider vinegar and ground flax seed dressing, and a variety of homegrown cherry tomatoes.

I. Am. In. Heaven. :-)

It's exactly 30 days to our wedding and all I want to do is quit my job.
Here's a photo of the ocean just south of Arcata.

Secret Project aka "paper maniac"!

This is all I can tell you about a secret project that has been taking up ALL my time for the past two days. That, and I LOVE InDesign.

'Nuff said.. Photo courtesy of StumbleUpon

aw sad...

Photo: taken by Athena Reich in Sheep's Meadow, Central Park, on Memorial Day 2008.

This week I bid a very sad farewell to my best friend in NYC, Kristen, as she packed her bags and moved on down the road to Austin. TEXAS>?! Who moves to Texas?? At least it's Austin, a place I will be more than happy to visit, especially in March and September ;-) I know she will be happy there too, with the quality of living being such that she and Dan can now afford an apartment with a music studio, and can also have a car. Over the past few (couple?) years, though, she and her fiance Dan have become Hiland and my defacto go-to peeps for good times and great memories, and they are already sorely missed.

Bridezilla?

So I finally picked a bridesmaid dress... Not sure if I like it or not, as the original choice was completely sold out at Nordstrom.com (for my bridesmaid who lives in NC, I figured a department store was the only way to go..) and this is certainly second best. But really, who cares... all my friends are beautiful no matter what they wear!

Grey

Photo: view from the top of the London Eye, taken November 2007

Today is a grey, grey day inside and out. Rained last night, so the tablecloth from cookout dinner with KK and Dan (and Tim) is all soggy and replete with candle wax, birdshit and artichoke oil. Not sure what drives these moodswings, only that they're a part of me I'm learning to outlast. By Saturday, I'm sure, things will be bright and sunny again.

Squirrels in the garden

Photo of the day, taken in early May at a farmstand on the SC/GA border.

Good morning! This morning when I walked out to the garden I saw that some lil' critter had knocked over my Papyrus plant (it had been in a container) and rolled it around in the mud. So sad!! I brought that plant over from Basel in cutting form, in a mitten on the plane.... I've tried to replant it, which may or may not take since the shafts are bent and might not draw water anymore. Stupid squirrels. If anyone has a suggestion about what to do, please be in touch. Other than that, I've decided to work in my pjamas today.

Beautiful Day

I found this photo on a Spanish desktop background site today, and it seemed to capture the mood of the day perfectly. One of my best friends from college visited me in Brooklyn for the first time in five years, and this is what it felt like.

New Website Up and Running!

After nearly two years of procrastination, (ok, two full years) I have caved and gone with a new wordpress-powered site template at leighanne.org

The upshot is that this blog can now be a home for all things fanciful, that is, unreleated to the things I do for work. Hope you enjoy!

Things About Me

  • I try to drink 1 liter of water a day. I hope this will soon increase to 1.5, but man, how many times a day can I go to the bathroom?
  • My curly hair, goes absolutely straight in the winter. It's sort of fun, really. Not that I ever blowout, anyway.
  • I just quit drinking coffee after being sick. I tried a skim latte today (I usually get full-fat) and it wasn't very tasty!
  • I like tea-tree lip balm. I think.
  • I feel OLD. I will be 26 in one month... not such a big deal, but considering that I didn't graduate college until I was 23, and then spent two years getting over that "post-liberal arts, quarter-life crisis" - well, i guess I'll just consider my self 24 in one month. That seems like a good idea, since that's where I am in life.
  • I want to go back to school. For singing. I have a BM in voice. I am good enough to be working already, but I
  • need more leeway to be creative in a city that doesn't exhaust me just to walk around in.
  • I hate anisette.
  • I use tinyurl.com about twice a month.
  • I plan to move this blog to my website soon. But please don't let that stop you from getting involved in my budding online personality. seriously ;-)

Lifestyle, Part I: "People (and organizations) Take Too Much"

One of the things that drives me to write this is the fact that I have too much time. Literally. Too much time to clean the kitchen, too much time to lay in bed, too much time to kill. And I mean, who is it who has time to waste, these days? Seems as though my boss is always running in and out of the office, from meeting to conference, Ohio to Nice to Zurich. So you can imagine how I feel when I slink into work each morning, hair still wet from the shower, with the clock hands pointing to "11:15" above me. Don't get me wrong, it's not that I don't do my job - it's just that my hours are "flexible," and, well, who really wants to spend extra hours getting berated by the artits, when one can spend those extra three minutes enjoying the scent of the Dr.Hauschka Normalizing Day Oil you just spent your "extra" $30 on? Just for reference, I'm nearly always broke. I don't have a credit card, and I don't have any debt, but for anyone who's known me... they'd say it's a damn good thing I haven't established credit. More on that later.

Basic Info

So it's just me and my trusty laptop, here at my kitchen table. The table is currently "wearing" an old tablecloth that was gifted to me by my mother (age 60)
- y'know, the faded cloth kind that looks like what you might think of when someone says "oilcloth." But mine has apples and apple blossoms all over it. I hope my boyfriend doesn't mind.

My boyfriend and I live toghther, now, and as a result I've created this is blog as a reaction to
  • not knowing if I am young or old
  • self-posed ponderings on friendship, marriage, life in brooklyn, and the like
  • being (somewhat) intentionally bored

"Hello World"

hi there. welcome me to the blog world, as I've logged 15 years online and yet, this is my first foray into the great wide yonder. I hope it'll be a good stay...
